Richard Curtis delivers us another memorable love story. About Time is a unique take on a love story with many levels. The film starts out with a bumbling young man struggling to find courage when approaching the opposite sex and after finding out about a family secret his life changes and he takes full advantage of it.
Domhnall Gleeson stars alongside, the always lovable, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy. Gleeson’s character, Tim, finds out from his father that all the men in the family can travel back in time. Skeptical, Tim tests his father’s theory and finds out that he can indeed travel back in time.
Over the course of the movie Tim finds out that there are certain rules to time travel, as there always is with this type of film, and breaking those have consequences. McAdams, who plays Mary, Tim’s love interest, is great but it’s the love Tim shows for his Dad played by Bill Nighy that tugs at your heart strings. Gleeson plays a believable character that you can actually watch mature throughout the film and Nighy’s fatherly role will have you wanting to call your Dad right away.
Overall, I give the film 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone in the mood for a romantic comedy. Enjoy!
